The important thing here is choosing the right combination for how you actually ride. We’d rather match the motor and battery to your riding than simply recommend the biggest numbers available, as this may add weight and cost where you may not need it.

There isn’t one simple answer - and anyone who gives you a single range figure without knowing how you ride is oversimplifying it.

Your range depends on factors such as battery size, rider weight, terrain, elevation, tyre choice, temperature, riding speed and how much assistance you use.

As a general rule, a larger battery gives you more range, while using higher assistance levels and riding steep or technical terrain will use more battery.

The Bosch Smart System is the connected platform that brings the different parts of your e-bike together.

It links the motor, battery, display, controls and eBike Flow app, allowing you to manage settings, view ride information and access connected features, depending on your bike and equipment.

It also gives Bosch a way to continue improving the system through software updates. Features and capabilities can therefore develop over time, rather than the bike being completely fixed from the day you buy it.

Yes — and this is one of the advantages of buying into a modern Bosch system.

Bosch regularly releases software updates that can improve performance, functionality and connectivity. Some updates can be installed through the eBike Flow app, while others may require a Bosch-equipped dealer with the appropriate diagnostic tools.

For example, eligible Performance Line CX Gen 5 systems have received significant performance updates, including an upgrade allowing up to 120 Nm of torque and up to 600% assistance. In simple terms, 600% assistance means the motor can provide up to six times the power you put into the pedals, giving you significantly more support on steep climbs and demanding terrain. The actual level of assistance varies depending on the riding mode, your pedalling input and the conditions, so it doesn’t mean the motor is always delivering six times your effort.

Some compatible Bosch systems and bike configurations can also offer higher assisted speeds, where permitted by the bike and local regulations. We can check what applies to your particular bike and configuration.

But the numbers only tell part of the story. What matters on the trail is how that power is delivered. Bosch combines high torque with responsive sensing and controlled power delivery, giving you strong assistance when climbing without making the bike feel unpredictable.

The exact performance of your Bosch system will depend on the motor and bike configuration.

There isn’t a fixed lifespan for a Bosch battery or motor. How long they last depends on how the bike is ridden, how often it is used, how it is stored and how well it is maintained.

Bosch batteries are designed for long-term use, but like all lithium-ion batteries, they gradually lose capacity over time. Heavy use, extreme temperatures and leaving a battery fully charged or discharged for long periods can accelerate ageing.

The motor itself is designed to be a long-term component, but regular servicing and addressing problems early can make a big difference to the life of the complete system.

From our experience, the better approach is not to focus on a set number of years or kilometres. Look after the bike, keep the system updated, service it when required and deal with any issues early. That gives you the best chance of getting many years of reliable future riding from your Bosch system.
